After a disappointing show on last night’s performance round, Burnell Taylor, the New Orleans native, was sent home in 7th place. The judges opted not to use their one save per season on Taylor.
Burnell’s performance of Bon Jovi’s ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’ last night was off-beat and forgettable, according to the judges.
With the elimination of Taylor, only one guy remains in the competition: Lazaro Arbos. Mentor Jimmy Iovine, who is also the head of Interscope records, predicted that Arbos would be the person sent packing. Iovine’s prediction proved just opposite, as it was revealed that Arbos was actually in the top three vote-earners. Arbos, despite almost always giving sub-par performances, gave a better performance last night than usual.
All five of the girls that made it to the top 10 are still in the competition. Angie Miller and Kree Harrison both made it to the top 3 vote-earners along with Arbos, after performing ‘Bring Me to Life’ by Evanescence and ‘Piece of My Heart’ by Janis Joplin, respectively. The other girls (Candice Glover, Amber Holcomb, and Janelle Arthur) were all revealed to be safe, with Janelle in the bottom two.
From all of the performances so far, it’s clear to see that all of the girls this year are a cut above the rest in terms of singing capability. Odds are a girl will take the crown this year for the first time in six years (the last female winner was Jordin Sparks in season six).
For the next round of performances, tune into FOX next Wednesday at 7 p.m. Central Standard Time.
